The government, in consultation with industry, has produced guidance to help ensure commuters and workplaces are as safe as possible. Following on from that advice, we have updated our guidelines and included a series of illustrations to show our members how to share responsibly. A three year project set up in the Black Isle in Scotland called Million Miles, has exceeded its target to reduce the number of car miles on the local roads. The project which promotes greener more sustainable travel, encourages individuals to consider the following alternatives;

Why car-sharing was considered
The 2011 census reported that approximately 394,700 West Sussex residents are in employment. Of these 58% (c.229,000) usually drive to work with a further 4.7% commuting as car passengers (c.18,550). Therefore at least around 37,000 employed residents currently car-share to work. The main target audience is therefore the 192,000 people that currently drive alone to work.
Car-sharing can help corporate organisations achieve many goals, including: reducing the need for physical space for parking, improving accessibility, cutting C02 emissions, saving employees a substantial amount of money and building stronger internal relationships. (more…)
